CONSTRUCTION OF THE NEW BUS AREA AT MADRID-BARAJAS AIRPORT
Aena is taking the first step towards expanding Barajas and improving its intermodality. The airport management company has awarded construction of the new Terminal 4 bus area project, developed by Efebearquitectura, to Dragados, an ACS subsidiary, for 21.2 million euros.
The interchange, which should be ready in 18 months, will be the Madrid airport’s largest. It will consist of 30 bays and a building of 12,600 square metres (m2), spread over two floors. The renovated, enlarged T1 station features 27 bays. The main floor, designed for waiting passengers and circulation, will feature a 350 m2 commercial area and terrace which envelops its full perimeter. The new infrastructure will have a pedestrian connection to T4 via the walkway that currently links Module F to the terminal building.
