Expansion work on the Trujillo International Airport (Captain FAP Carlos Martinez de Pinillos) in Peru will begin in approximately 2026. This ambitious project, promoted by ADP – Aeropuertos del Perú, will increase the operational capacity, as well as optimize and improve airport safety conditions.

Our architectural firm together with Ineco and Cemosa are immersed in the preparation of the technical file for the expansion of the Trujillo International Airport. This includes the design of a new international passenger terminal and a cargo terminal. In addition to the expansion of the aircraft apron, among other support facilities. It will cover a total area of 22,793.80 m².

Structure of the new terminal building: Trujillo International Airport Expansion

The building is presented as a large “H” on which are located service areas, operations and the longitudinal circulation that connects processes and a central volume of greater height, which concentrates all baggage and passenger processes and offices of operations and government entities. This volume has a slight slope towards the more elongated facades and a more organic shape on the roof plane. With a steel structure and a light metal roof, the building features a series of voids or skylights that let natural light pass through. Entrances and exits are clearly marked, making it easy for passengers and other users to find their way around. Elevated, the terminal has a drop at the most unfavorable point of 1.70 m in height in relation to the platform.

Location of Trujillo International Airport

The lot destined for the development of the passenger terminal (TE) is located to the north of the building corresponding to the service block and to the south of the Fire Station or Rescue and Firefighting Service (SEI); and between the airfield and the parking lot.

Integration of Modernity and Culture in the expansion of Trujillo Airport

Aeropuertos del Perú (AdP) has taken a significant step in defining the architectural identity of the new passenger terminal at Trujillo International Airport, integrating modernity and culture. Peru’s historical, cultural and traditional values have been taken into account to shape a design that, in addition to being aesthetically representative, incorporates advanced technical strategies for energy savings, consolidating a clear and efficient design approach.

The terminal has a simple, linear structure, divided into three large spaces designed according to criteria of use, height and specific structural solutions:

  1. Main area: all baggage and passenger processes are concentrated here.
  2. Central area: It serves as a connecting hub and houses controls, customs and offices distributed over two floors.
  3. Commercial area: Lower in height, it is dedicated to stores and passenger circulation at departures and arrivals.

Space distribution

The terminal is organized on two levels within a metallic structure:

  • Second floor encompassing baggage and passenger processes in one large space, as well as commercial areas. Also located here are the support services areas and AdP operations offices, along with a small space for government entities.
  • The second floor, smaller in size, contains AdP’s operations areas and some government offices. It acts as an articulator of the volumes for the process areas and the circulation and commercial areas in departures and arrivals.

Functional architecture

A key aspect of the design is the modulation of spaces, with 9-meter bays that allow flexibility for future expansion.

This approach ensures a design that is coherent, functional and aligned with cultural values, enhancing the passenger and operator experience, and meeting the highest international aviation standards.

We are proud to lead the design of the new passenger terminal and support facilities at Trujillo International Airport. This project will not only enhance operational capacity and service levels, but also proudly reflect Peru’s rich cultural identity, integrating modernity and efficiency in every detail.
